Gearing up for another day on the Broadway stage, Ashlee Simpson was spotted leaving her apartment in New York City on Thursday morning (December 31) .

The former “Melrose Place” actress was looking stylish in a wintertime ensemble with a matching derby hat as she headed over to the Ambassador Theatre.

Portraying Roxie Hart in the hit musical, Miss Simpson was slated to perform an early New Year’s Eve show at 3PM before getting a day off for the New Year’s holiday.

Having a blast with her performance duties, the 25-year-old recently tweeted: “Got to say being apart of this show and with such an amazing cast is just AWESOME! It’s such a fun show to be apart of and such a family!!”

Sibling rivalry is as old as family itself, and you’d think it would be even more common in famous families, but when it comes to Jessica and Ashlee Simpson that’s definitely not the case.

Jessica has been a big supporter and fan of her sister over the years, and the most recent example is Jess’ repeated viewings of Ashlee’s performance in the long-running New York City staging of Chicago.

She’s been in the audience to applaud her sister five times since the show opened on Nov. 30.

On the night of the premiere, Jessica twittered her approval of Ashlee’s performance as the musical’s leading lady:

“Roxie was all Heart! Watching her up on that grandiose stage made me the proudest sister in the world. I love ya honey, I love ya!. Grrrrrrr”

The following night Jessica again took to her Twitter page to voice her sisterly pride:

“Night #2 (: I’m so proud!! Butterflies all over again!!!”

It seems Jessica’s cheerleading for her sibling hasn’t diminished in light of her own ups and downs, which People.com provides visual evidence of in a photo montage.

Pop rocker Ryan Cabrera is a little freaked out by the fact that his ex, Ashlee Simpson, is married to Fallout Boy Pete Wentz and mom to Bronx Mowgli, 1.

“It’s so weird. It always freaks me out,” Cabrera told the Track. “Back at home, for Christmas, I was hanging out with Jessica (Ashlee’s older sis) and saw pics of Ashlee’s babies and stuff. It’s kind of cool. It’s not weird in terms of me seeing her with someone else, but it’s weird because I’m like, ‘Whoa, is that what we’re supposed to be doing?’

“I’m concentrating on music and everyone else is getting married and having kids.”

Cabrera, who is headed to King’s for a New Year’s Eve acoustic-style concert tomorrow night, said he’s still friends with all the Simpsons – despite his past with Ashlee.

“They’re like family,” he said. “There is nothing weird. There is none of that jealous ex-boyfriend stuff. It’s been so long, so it’s all good.”

The 27-year-old rocker, who dated Simpson for a year in 2004, is hoping to keep the good times going tomorrow night.

“I think New Year’s Eve is going to be fun,” he said. “Last year I did L.A., this (past) year I did Vegas. We always hang out with people and party.”

And, the singer added, this is the first New Year’s he’s been single – so ladies, be ready!

“I played last year with my shirt off,” he said. “It’s just an intimate, small fun vibe.”

Spending some time as a family, Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz and son, Bronx, were spotted in New York City on Monday (December 28).

The cute trio bundled up and headed over to a park where they pushed their young one in a swing, seeming to enjoy every minute together.

In other news, it’s no secret that Mr Wentz has been sporting a black eye over the last couple of days, and his rep recently joked, telling Us magazine, “The mean streets of NY got to him.”

But a source close to the “Fall Out Boy” stud insists it’s from a fall on the street and the bruise “is not as bad as it looks.”

Tending to their separate agendas, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz were both keeping busy in New York City on Saturday afternoon (December 26).

While the “Pieces of Me” singer was spotted leaving her Big Apple abode, her Fall Out Boy hubby showed off his black eye while doing a little post-Christmas shopping around town.

Both Ashlee and Pete have been active on their Twitter accounts during the holidays, with Ashlee tweeting, “Merry merry christmas everyone..ahh I love christmas.”

Meanwhile, Pete updated his fans earlier this morning, writing, “Up and at them. dunno what the day has in store. fam is in town. had good time with them and w/ Samantha Ronson and her sister.”
