Hot mama Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is super svelte these days, but she had a lot of baby weight to lose after having her son Bronx.

“I gained 50 pounds, which was awesome!” she told me at Reebok’s fitness event today. “I ate cake and cupcakes. I had a blast!”

While it wasn’t so fun losing the weight she put on, Ash said she had a little extra help with her workout regimen…

She says the secret’s in her Reebok EasyTone shoes, which claim to tone your butt and thighs just by wearing them.

“When I wanted to get back into shape, I worked out and these shoes are amazing because you can really feel them in your booty,” she swore. “But I also worked out and ate healthy.”

Nowadays, she still lifting weight: her growing son. “I carry Bronx, and he’s 33 pounds so I get my workout in,” she laughed.

But  Ash says that she hasn’t quit logging time on the treadmill, adding: ”I try to hit the gym for 30 minutes while Bronx is napping.”

The actress-singer seems to have majorly downsized her work schedule since appearing in Chicago on Broadway, but she’s happy to take a break from her career (along with a recent trip to Hawaii with her hubby and baby). “Being a mom is my first priority and it’s amazing because you grow up and watch your child grow up,” she explained. “It’s the best thing in the whole entire world.”

And even though both Ashlee and sister Jessica have done reality shows, it doesn’t sound like we’ll see ever see the two doing a Simpson sister show.

“I’m a Wentz now, but no,” Ash added. “No plans for a reality show.”

Twenty two episodes after, it has just been revealed that Nina Dobrev wasn’t The CW’s first choice to lead “The Vampire Diaries“. The network initially wanted Ashlee Simpson to take the role of Elena/Katherine but the producers thought they should look further.

“We all independently looked at a bunch of [audition] DVDs,” co-executive producer and director Marcos Siega said at a recent Screen Actors Guild event for TVD. “We couldn’t find the girl we wanted. The network wanted us to hire Ashlee Simpson. …But Nina sent this DVD back and we all were home looking, searching, and we came in the next day saying, ‘We should look at Nina again.’ We showed it to Peter Roth, and Peter only saw her on that tape and he said, ‘That’s her’.”

Ashlee eventually took a role on “Melrose Place” which is now axed due to low rating. Nina meanwhile shared her side of story to E! Online, saying “Half of Hollywood I think went out for the role, for all our roles. I guess I did something right, here I am. We had to discover and find our characters. Every episode we learned something more and something more, and eventually we created and molded these amazing, awesome characters.”

In fact, Paul Wesley was not always Stefan. Many times he would audition for the role of Damon before Ian Somerhalder snatched it. However, Ian previously said that he didn’t get the role straight away because the producers did not think he portrayed Damon the right way the first time.

“The Vampire Diaries” went through a successful season 1 and has been renewed for another season this Fall. “Typically the second season of every show is generally its best year so I think we need to make it an unbelievable year of television,” Ian said. Nina confirmed that the season will start right where they left it off.

Bronx picked up after accident – May 18 [MQ]

Making for quite the scary situation, Pete and Ashlee Wentz’s 1 ½ year old son was involved in a small fender bender on Tuesday (May 18).

Upon hearing the news, the Fall Out Boy rocker rushed to pick up Bronx, who was being watched by a nanny when the accident happened in Cold Water Canyon.

“It was a minor fender-bender, and everyone is fine,” the couple’s rep told press.

Details of the accident have not been released.

What a cutie! Bronx Mowgli Wentz, 17 months, was photographed with his nanny in Los Angeles yesterday (May 16). The adorable tot made funny faces as the nanny took him for a stroll.

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson Wentz were bopping up and down from the side of the stage at Jay-Z‘s recent show at Los Angeles’s Staples Center – and the two didn’t go unnoticed by the rapper. “Pete Wentz, I see you,” he said from the stage, adding, “Ash, I see you. Hope I didn’t embarrass you.” Standing next to them: Chris Rock, who threw his hands up and sang along to every song, while Justin Bieber and Paris Hilton were also at the show.
